State of the World
Modern Valentia has become more and more turbulent by the day. Events, situations, and occurrences can be difficult to keep track of...which is why this thread exists!
Succession Woes, One Kingdom
The One Kingdom, United Valentia, faces a divide not seen in centuries. As King Alphonse ages by the day the pressure rises for him to choose a successor. Though he has many children across three wives, his eldest are twins – equals in succession. Princess Arielle IV, whom he has given command over the fiefdom of Rigel, and Prince Auron who is seen far more often at the King's side. As such, many across Valentia have seen this as a sign that Prince Auron will be the one to succeed the King, while Arielle will remain princess and Chancellor of Rigel.
The northerners living under the governance of Arielle see this as an affront. Auron is considered savvy politically, but even those in the south fail to see the same strength in him that King Alphonse had in his prime. He has done little in regards to quelling the growing Terror threat, and he has shown no visible regard for the poor within Valentia.
Arielle, however, has been shown to be a strong ruler. Before she was assigned to Rigel, the princess personally dealt with a rebellion that had broken out towards southern Valentia. She ended the threat, the noble house that had instigated it, and immediately replaced them so that their lands did not suffer. Those in Rigel love her dearly, and those in the south remember her valor and her chivalry. Even if she seems more a knight than a Queen, many prefer such traits to a prince who knows how best to keep his council happy.
This has led to various division amongst Valentians. Arielle has garnered strong support at the far ends of Valentia, while Auron's backing lies in the center. There are rumors that even the various orders within the Brotherhood of Knights have begun to choose their sides. Though ultimately the choice lies solely with King Alphonse. Surely he has made his decision...right?
